For the Love of Nutella

As a lover of chocolate in general, the discovery of nutella my first year at UCLA (thanks to my amazing roommates Emily and Rhea) was a major step in my life.  I have discovered a ridiculously easy and fairly tasty recipe in which to use this delightful food product, Nutella Cookies.  They have three ingredients.  Seriously.  I found them on this really great site with lots of other recipes that I want to try at some point.  I feel that the focus of this blog has become less about my adventures in graduate school and more about my adventures baking in graduate school.  Maybe it’s time for a blog theme update?  Baking my way through grad school?  Maybe I should try to sell them…  Hmmm.

My life right now isn’t all that exciting.  I’ve not done anything that stands out much since I first arrived, when I got to go to an  island owned by some of my boyfriend’s family friends.  That was incredible!  But since then, I’ve mostly just been reading things for my thesis (huge thank yous go out to Mark Osteen and Stuart Murray for their work, if they ever read random blogs that happen to have a little to do with their field), drinking warm beverages- there is literally a whole shelf in my kitchen dedicated to teas, coffees, and hot chocolate-, and cooking/baking.

That said, I’ve learned a lot about the UK recently in my reading of academic articles and the BBC News page.  Tomorrow is Remembrance Day, a day dedicated to remembering fallen soldiers from various British wars.  I’ve been told that at 11am, the whole country observes two minutes of silence for when the guns fell silent after WWI- 11th hour of the 11 day of the 11th month.  Apparently one stops what one is doing no matter where you are.  The image to the left is  the Cenotaph with poppies around it in honor of those soldiers who never made it home.
